Is there an Escape from Tarkov single-player mode?

Escape from Tarkov single-player
There is no single-player campaign mode in Escape from Tarkov. There is, however, an offline mode. The offline mode is meant for practice against and with AI players. Ideally, you will practice in the game’s offline mode before heading online. Playing the game this way ought to give you an understanding of the maps and feel of different weapons before you take it all on in an unfriendly online setting. There is technically a single-player mode in Escape from Tarkov, then, but it is not a story/campaign mode. It is planned, though, that story quests of some kind will be added into the game at some point.

We don’t know when the story quests will be added to Escape from Tarkov, nor do we know what form they will take. We might see campaign quests that tell a story during online play, for example. Sides to the main of the online modes. The planned story quests could come in the form of single-player levels, too. All we know is that as of May 2020 (as per this Reddit thread), Escape from Tarkov story quests are planned. No time-frame or further details have been given as of writing.
For now, the only Escape from Tarkov single-player offering is the game’s offline mode, which is meant for practice. We’ll have to wait and see if a full single-player story/campaign mode is added to the game in the future.

Escape from Tarkov - The power and price of popularity

I watched more Escape from Tarkov before I played it. A hugely popular Twitch Drop event from late December to early January finally convinced me to buy in, and during my first game all I could think of was:
"His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy ..."
Yes, Eminem's opening line in "Lose Yourself" more than adequately describes the feeling Tarkov invokes as a realistic, high risk-high reward survival game.
I loaded in and encountered a player quite suddenly after they jumped a fence. After a brief battle, I emerged victorious, greedily scooping up their loot for myself, fully intending to add their stuff to my stash after I extracted from the map.
Shortly after, I was eliminated while running around, sent back to the loading screen to try again with my loot, which used to be someone else's loot, now in the hands of the player that took me out.
My next game I took it slow ... deliberate, silent -- annnnnnnnd I'm gone. I never even saw the player.
ESPN Daily NewsletterSign up now!
It is the hardest game I have ever loved, and its unique gameplay loop, depth and strategy have pushed it into the limelight, captivating streamers and audiences alike. But captivation and calamity often go hand-in-hand in the gaming and streaming world. Server crashes and disconnects, lag spikes and rubber banding, excessive queue times, and an influx of cheaters from China (a region notorious for cheating in online games) accompanied the game's rise.
Sound familiar? A gritty, fun FPS in which a sudden pop of popularity exposed bugs, problems and exploits the developer wasn't ready for? If you're thinking PUBG, we're on the same page.
"It's unlike any other game I think right now," said Benjamin "DrLupo" Lupo. "You can play it a bunch of different ways. You can play it super fast and you'll get punished for it sometimes or you'll win big, or you can play super slow. It has thriller-style mechanics, as you're seeing high tension gameplay."
Lupo is one of the many streamers who have reaped the rewards of Tarkov. He was an early adopter, playing the game about two years ago, which has given him a leg up on in-game knowledge. He knows the loot, the builds, the maps, the common tactics used ... and it all comes together for an entertaining, educational stream.
Because of this, his viewership has more than doubled, he said. Prior to Tarkov, his focus was on Fortnite, in which he was pulling around 5,000 to 7,000 viewers on average. Not only has Tarkov made Lupo a more common streaming name, but the viewership has remained in those double digits after the Twitch Drop event that thrust Tarkov into the mainstream.
"I've wanted this for such a long time, for this game to get noticed in a way that I feel like it deserves," he said.
This isn't the first time a game has taken over the streaming kingdoms, either. The aforementioned PUBG took center stage in 2017. Fortnite made its mark in 2018 behind the AAA studio Epic, capitalizing on its status and resources to produce a largely bug-free, cheater-free, unique, and ultimately fun (read: hugely monetizable) battle royale experience. Now, it seems to be Tarkov's turn in 2020 (it's important to note that the game is advertised as still in beta).
And much like games before it, the popularity has grown to a point where third-party competitions have cropped up. Boom.tv just held its first Code Red $10,000 Escape from Tarkov tournament. The winner was the one with the most roubles (in-game currency) at the end of eight hours of playing (you could only sell to vendors), and dog tags (player-only items you loot off players you eliminate) were worth 200,000 roubles a pop.
Lupo took third, while Australian streamer Pestily took first. Other top streamers like Jaryd "Summit1g" Lazar and Guy "DrDisrespect" Beahm also participated, keeping Tarkov on the top of Twitch for most of the day's tournament. It's unclear how future Tarkov competitions will play out, but for a first attempt, it was a pretty unique take, especially in the era of battle royales like Apex, Fortnite and PUBG.
The developer and publisher of Escape from Tarkov, Battlestate Games, is made up of about 100 people. Front-facing Nikita Buyanov is leading the charge, and even with a few years of work behind the game, BSG was not prepared for how successful the Twitch Drop event would be.
"When the drops event started, the server overloads began and we were busy with work," he said." "It was already clear that EFT was at the top, everyone started posting about it and paying attention to it, but we were not up to it. Therefore, unfortunately, it was not possible to fully experience [the moment the game became popular]."
Twitch Drops allow viewers to earn in-game items by watching streamers play the game. Tarkov's event reportedly pulled in over 30 million hours viewed, with 8.3 million objects handed out. This tabulated to over 1,000,000,000 roubles.
"There was an exact understanding and forecast that the growth of players will happen, but it was difficult to predict what numbers will be exactly," Buyanov said.
Buyanov recalls the rise of PUBG, and the problems that came with it, saying Tarkov is experiencing the same kind of popularity spike. "Indeed, there are examples of projects that have become very popular and experienced problems. Our precautionary measures led to the ability to have everyone set and ready at their battle stations. And this continues up to this day we have to work at night and on weekends."
Unfortunately for Buyanov, they do not deal with the lines connecting the client and servers, saying if the "the servers, data centers, and their employees were ours, of course, the situation would be much better." Servers are continually added, and the game becomes more stable each week, but more problems rear their ugly head -- cheating will always be a concern, something PUBG had difficulty addressing for a while until they introduced region-locking (Battlestate says they have region-locked Asia and utilize BattleEye to combat cheaters). Even today PUBG continues to battle cheaters, performance issues post-updates, and most recently, DDoS attacks.
Despite the exposed digital shortcomings, the game has only continued to grow, and with that growth comes more eyes and critique in the real world. For example, an interview from 2016 was unearthed and quickly circulated where a Battlestate employee stated that Tarkov is only a place for "hardened men" and they "came to the conclusion that women are not allowed to be in the war."
MoreMrSavage triumphs at DreamHack Anaheim's Fortnite tournament | Every COD map from the Atlanta FaZe's homestand in one sentence | What do Fortnite pros think of Chapter 2, Season 2?
This was not taken well by the internet, and BSG issued an apology and clarification, saying the employee was "reprimanded and properly instructed."

Regarding the 3 years old article with points about women in EFT. The answers were done by one, not a key BSG employee which probably were misinterpreted and as a result didn't reflect the official position of the company, that we always respected women in wars and military women

Still, Tarkov does not have plans to put women in the game as playable characters. On this, Lupo said he's more concerned about balance and competitive edges, but added games can be viewed as art, and it's up to the artists to create and the audience to respond.
"Ultimately, the game that they are making, and I think people sometimes lose sight of this, a video game can easily be viewed as art," he said. "You ever play Bastion? Bastion is an absolute work of art. It's beautiful. This is just as much a work of art, it's just a different art style, and if Battlestate thinks that their piece of art they are making shouldn't have XYZ thing in it, no matter what it is, it's up to them, not us. On the other side of that, it's up to us to react in whatever way we see fit. That could be that we like it, that could be that we're mad about it. I just want to play the game because I think it's fun."
It's tough to say how long the popularity of Tarkov will last, when everything will be fixed, or if the next big streaming game will come before that happens. Lupo streamed the first Destiny for a year and a half because it was good for business. That kind of wear-and-tear can visually impact a streamer and his or her audience, so introducing something that holds the attention of the streamer and the audience like Tarkov is just the injection some streamers needed -- as long the game continues to get better.

"It captivates the viewer in a way that nothing else really has in a long time, I think, from what I've seen," said Lupo. "That's my opinion."

Escape From Tarkov Patch 12.6 Wipes Character Data, Items, And Progress

Escape From Tarkov went down for a few hours on Thursday, May 28 to deploy patch 12.6 (0.12.6.7456), a major update to the early access shooter that included a global wipe of character data among several other changes, additions, and bug fixes. The massive reset erased all player progress, including level, trader rep, and any items stored in your stash, keeping only weapon presets and examined items saved in the handbook.
While the routine wipe was one of the major highlights of the latest Tarkov update, it's not the only thing that patch 12.6 brings with it. A captcha has been added to the flea market as an extra measure against bots, all stashes (no matter which Escape From Tarkov edition you have) have been increased by an additional 20 cells, and players now have the ability to lean while prone. Five new parts for the AR-15/M4 are also available to scavenge, but cannot be purchased from traders. The update also modifies a few quests and brings a number of optimizations, AI improvements, and bug fixes.
Leading up to the most recent wipe, Battlestate Games also temporarily reduced shop prices and unlocked all trader levels, allowing every player to access high-level weapons and gear before the wipe took place, in a kind of "post-wipe event." Patch 12.6 marks the first Escape From Tarkov wipe since October 2019.
Find the full patch notes for this latest Escape From Tarkov update below, or read them on the game's official website.

Escape From Tarkov's New Map Revealed, 12.7 Patch Will Revamp The Skill System

Escape From Tarkov had a ton of new content detailed during the PC Gaming Show, and players of the military sim shooter can look forward to the next map, the revamped skill system, and a new boss. These features are part of Tarkov's upcoming 12.7 patch, which was said to be more of a technical update.
The major reveal was the new map and it looks to be a highly detailed rundown city full of buildings to explore, and Battlestate's head of PR Nikita Buyanov said that this will be the "biggest and most detailed location" for Tarkov. Sound design will be very important as the trailer showcased the different audio cues of walking on different surfaces. You can see the preview of the map in the video below.
Buyanov also stated the the Customs map size will increase by 30 to 40 percent. Although 12.7 will overhaul the skill system and include the new Senator boss, we didn't get further details on those features. For more on the game, be sure to check out our Escape From Tarkov coverage.

Escape From Tarkov has sent me on a long quest for some toilet roll

Deep in a rusting warehouse, in a broken Russian state, I scope around a corner and stumble across the site of a massacre. Four, no, five bodies stretch the length of the hall, slumped and discarded. After reeling from the dead I click into Tarkov mode… Someone in that pile might have a roll of toilet paper!

Though there is no military value in bog roll, Escape From Tarkov thrives on loot. All the gruff men scouring the levels, with their carefully arranged layers from a tactical Urban Outfitters, are basically popping out for something from the shops/corpses. It might play a bit like a survival shooter, and it might also feel like a battle royale game, but “winning” is simply a case of getting out of the vast levels with more stuff than you entered with. You don’t need to be the last man standing, but you do need to have netted something for your time.

In my opening days as a scavenger, a roll of two-ply with a puppy on the wrapper was about all I could focus on. It was an easily understandable requirement in an otherwise baffling game. Vendors in Tarkov will often require additional items to trade alongside rubles. I wanted an armoured vest, and the vendor needed some loo roll and soap alongside payment. Hygiene is important, especially during an apocalypse, and somehow, somewhere I’d already found some soap.

So I had a purpose, which was good because it was a rare moment of clarity in a game that thrives on obfuscation. When you’re asked to Escape–as the title behooves you to do–you need to work out where the unflagged escape routes are (there are in-game maps, but every single person in the community will tell you to use the game’s wiki). Looting requires you to take the time to uncover what you’re looking at, leaving you in prime position to be turned into a corpsey lootbox for someone else to rifle through. It’s chaos! I chose to focus on that single item, hoping I’d learn the rest of the game by Andrex osmosis.

Each round has a time-limit hanging over you like someone banging on a toilet stall demanding you hurry up, but it’s not a swift game. It’s built for stealth, with a control scheme that plays like an accessible Arma. Stances and speed are adjusted in small degrees. As I traipsed across the warehouse strewn Customs map, I learned that running full pelt around the map was a sure way to get dead. Then I learned that doing the same, but crouching, just made you dead in a more compact position. It was starting to feel like the only way I would escape would be to load into the level and run straight for an exit. I tried that. I did not make it. Death was around every corner, hidden in every shadow, squatting in every bush. You don’t learn by doing; you learn by dying.

And using the internet. Google told me the dorms in the Customs map was a known loot haven. There’s no guarantee with RNG, but I figured that there was a good chance that I’d uncover my totemic toilet roll in that squat little collection of buildings. I somehow made it there alive, and snuck in. Like dorms everywhere, they’re incredibly unwelcoming. Dark, claustrophobic, and a place where high-level NPCs spawn. I stalked the corridors, cracking doors and checking rooms, closing them as I went, because I was taught to be respectful even during an apocalypse. I found piles of crap and burnt-out detritus, but no loo roll. When I discovered a body pile on the roof it was full of worthless military doodads. This is a world with more shotguns than sponge soft shitter sheets.

So I backtracked downstairs and froze: half the doors were now open. I wasn’t alone. I crouched and backed up the corridor as another player emerged. He was zig-zagging, checking every room. I settled into a prone position and watched, fascinated. He never once looked at me. He wasn’t aware he was being watched. It was like looking at myself many deaths ago. This is how I learned that you really, really need to take your time and plan every step as you hunt for loot. What a clumsy idiot I must have been! A walking target, crazily mumbling about commodes. I can feel all those crosshairs converging on me as I type this…

Then the door into the building opened and another played entered. I shot at him and missed, the guy I had been tracking dropped back into a room, and the new player shot me in the face. I’m not sure there’s even a lesson in that. It just happened. Maybe if I’d had the toilet paper I’d have been more cautious and let them fight each other while I tried to make myself smaller and less shootable? I’ve since stalked around Tarkov as stealthily as the controls will allow. I still died in a garage with a hand full of rubles and no poop paper, but at least this time I saw my murderer for more than a second. We even engaged in a what could charitably be called a face-off.

In a way, Tarkov reminds me of One Red Paperclip, a website where a guy started out with a paperclip and traded his way up from it until he owned a house. Risking life and limb for a roll of toilet paper is just the start. With the TP, I can trade onwards and upwards, to the point where I’ll be able to fit out my hideout with a room that generates toilet paper. That’s the dream. The hideout also has the capability to store a BitCoin mine, but right now that’s so far off that it might as well be a time machine. Or a bidet.

For now, I’ll keep playing. There’s someone out there in the same position I’ve been in. Zigging when they should be crouching, zagging when they should be trying to work out what grip fits perfectly on an HK 416A5 5.56×45 assault rifle by searching the wiki on their second monitor. I hope I find them, if only to see if they have a roll of two-ply on them. I still really, really need it.

Can Escape from Tarkov overtake the battle royale genre’s popularity?

Escape From Tarkov over battle royale Fortnite
Escape from Tarkov has been at the top of Twitch since the dawn of the new year. With many streamers playing the game and holiday loot drops in effect, there’s certainly a high demand for the game. In fact, many known battle royale streamers have dropped their game of choice to play EFT with each other. Influencers like DrLupo, Cloakzy, and TimTheTatMan have all gotten in on the EFT popularity. However, we’ve seen spurts from titles like this before, Sea of Thieves being a great example. So, will EFT be able to sustain its success and potentially put a major dent in battle royales’ popularity?

Escape from Tarkov making noise

Escape from Tarkov is an online MMO first-person shooter set in the dark, gloomy city of Tarkov. The player’s goal is to loot the open world, complete quests, and take down other players. There are, of course, more intricate details in EFT, but that’s the shortened version.
EFT has been around for quite some time, launching in open beta nearly two years ago. The game gained some traction with high-profile streamers checking it out but nothing major. However, this past holiday season, Escape from Tarkov developer BattleState Games implemented holiday drops.
Escape From Tarkov EFT
These drops include a wide variety of in-game loot that players can earn by simply watching streamers play the game. This, paired with EFT‘s fun and exciting world, launched the game to the top of Twitch seemingly overnight. Escape from Tarkov went from 5-10,000 viewers to nearly 200,000 in the span of a week or two.
With such a massive viewership increase, speculation arises whether EFT can sustain this top-tier success. The game does have substantial replayability and provides a battle royale-type component with the online atmosphere. Although, battle royales have been at the top for nearly five years, starting with H1Z1: King of the Kill and now with Fortnite and Apex Legends.
It will take months of high viewership to say Escape from Tarkov is the next big thing. However, BattleState Games is on the right track to potentially make a run at battle royale titles.

How to download and start playing Escape from Tarkov

Escape From Tarkov download and play Battlestate Games
Battlestate Games’ Escape from Tarkov (EFT) is quickly becoming one of the most popular titles in the FPS scene. Praised for its modern twist on survival RPGs, the game is captivating new gamers around the world each day. Set in the ruined city of Tarkov, players must try to navigate their way out of different maps with the most loot possible. However, there are up to 11 other real players and numerous NPCs looking to take your loot. As EFT grows in popularity, more and more people are trying their hand at the game. Here, we’ll help you to download and start playing the game.

Where to download Escape from Tarkov

Escape from Tarkov isn’t available on any major website or application like Steam or the Epic Games Store. Instead, Battlestate Games has its own website and launcher for the title, similarly to how Fortnite does it. As of right now, Escape from Tarkov is only available for PC. Also, keep in mind EFT is currently in open beta, so expect some bugs and glitches.
If you’re looking to download EFT, head over to EscapeFromTarkov.com. The website itself has been a bit buggy as of late with so many people attempting to purchase the game, as a warning. Once you’re on the website, look for the icon that says “Pre-Order” and click on it.
Escape From Tarkov Battlestate Games
Next, you can peruse which edition of the game you would like to buy. The Standard Edition is $44 and comes with some basic supplies for the game. Above that, the Left Behind Edition is $74, the Ready for Escape Edition is $99, and the Edge of Darkness Edition is $139. The higher the edition, the more stash space you acquire and the better starting loot you receive.
After you pick which version to buy, follow the payment steps the website lays out for you. If you’re all set and paid, make your way to your Profile page and hit the install button, which downloads the Battlestate Games Launcher.
Escape From Tarkov download
Once the launcher is downloaded, log in to your account and download Escape from Tarkov. The game is around 10 GB, which isn’t anything too meaty. You can only access EFT from the launcher, so don’t delete that once it’s finished downloading. If all goes well, you should see an option to play Escape from Tarkov!
Make sure to stay up to date with Daily Esports for all future Escape from Tarkov coverage.

Escape from Tarkov players revolt over THICC cases

Angry Escape from Tarkov players got their way this week after a mid-wipe update changed the rewards for a particular late-game quest. The update yanked the popular THICC item case from the rewards granted for completing a late-game quest. So many players took to social media and Reddit to complain that Battlestate Games reverted the change, and pledged to make sure players who finished the updated quest would still be rewarded with the case.
Yes, that’s right, it’s called a THICC items case, and it’s an insanely valuable reward – which is why Battlestate Games wanted to remove it from the rewards offered for the Private Clinic quest. To understand why the THICC case is particularly valuable – and why it’s a problem – you have to understand a couple things about Escape from Tarkov. First, what you’re always trying to do is earn money, and one of the limiting factors on this in the beginning of the game is your inventory space.
THICC cases expand your usable inventory space by taking up just 10-15 squares in your inventory while offering up to 196 inventory slots inside. This makes them extremely valuable to newer players who need space to store the gear they find in raids, and the cases will frequently sell on the flea market for 15 million rubles or more.
Tarkov streamer Michael Benson explains to us that selling these cases provide a massive financial boost – while you have to make some in-game investment of time and money in order to earn the reward, you could count on making double your money on Private Clinic – that is, until Battlestate pulled the cases as a reward for the quest, replacing them with standard containers.
“It’s a good change because that quest leapfrogs a lot of the financial hardship,” Benson said. “Basically, I completed that quest and immediately finished my hideout. And now I’ll never have money problems.”
To put it another way, the THICC case as it’s currently offered trivialises a lot of other Escape from Tarkov content, and Battlestate wanted to address that issue. But the timing and communication of the change could hardly have been worse. Some number of players had already begun the quest, sinking money into gear and items they needed to complete it. The backlash was nearly immediate, and Battlestate boss Nikita Buyanov took to the Tarkov subreddit to help calm things down.
“Ok, I get it! Sorry for that change,” he wrote Tuesday. “I guess it was too harsh to do a live change like that. I will not say anything else – cases are changed back. I definitely didn’t predict THAT impact.”
Battlestate says it’s working on finding a way to make sure everyone who completed Private Clinic before the change was reverted is still rewarded with a THICC case.
Players who had their sights set on the THICC payday will be compensated, it seems – but this does only kick the can down the road. Battlestate still has to work out a solution for the progression spike presented by Private Clinic, but it may have to wait for the next wipe to fix it
